授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

ジネズベンチャーは、イノベーション、雇用、社会への経済的影響を創出する上重要な役割を果たしています。しかし、潜在的な起業家がどうのように意識を受け、決定と行動するか? ベンチャー創出の失敗と成功の要素がなんでしょうか? 必要な知識と能力についての理解が不足しています。ですから、ベンチャー創りのスキルの基本原則を勉強することを目的としています。

この講座では、 ベンチャービジネスの失敗と成功につながる要因の焦点を勉強します。特に大学生発べんチャーの例を中心します。それは、ベンチャー創造についての基本的なビジネス知識を得ることに興味がある人のためのものです。たとえば、ベンチャーを創る時、チームや個人の方が優れていますか?大学生はどのようにしてベンチャーを創り出すことができるのか?。このベンチャーを創り出すプロセスでは、「Venture Gestation-ベンチャー懐胎期」と呼ばれます。ベンチャー懐胎期について「ビジネス機会の意識 - >ベンチャーチームの形成 - >リソース収集 - >ビジネスプラン作成 - >プロトタイプ検証 - >起業設立」のプロセスを勉強します。

「フロンティア・スピリット」を促進するコースの1つとして、実際の海外事例を用いて、「バイリンガル形式」(70%英語で指導と勉強+30%日本語で支援と説明)で授業を行います。 英語は主要言語として使用されているが、日本語は補助的言語になります。この環境では海外のインターンシップ、留学、就職するためにはビジネス英語を習得する学生が相応しいコースです。
Entrepreneurship has a growing important role in creating innovation, job employment and economic impact to the society. However, there is a lacking of understanding on the mindset, behavior of potential entrepreneur and necessary competencies of creating a venture Thus, the course aims to impart students with fundamental principles of entrepreneurship and skills to create a business plan.

This unique course focuses on a study on the factors that leads to failure and success of venture business, especially by university students. It is for those who are interested to gain basic business knowledge about creation of venture. For example, is team or individual better to create venture? How can university student creates venture? The course provides the insights on the process of venture creation, called “venture gestation”. Students will learn the process of “Opportunity awareness-> team formation-> resource gathering-> Business Plan creation-> prototype validation->firm creation”.

As one of the course that promotes “new frontier spirit”, the lessons will be conducted in an “bilingual-format” (70% English oriented- 30% Japanese supported) using overseas case studies in English and Japanese. English will be the primary language, while Japanese is used as a supportive language. This will prepare students who wish to gain skills using English to pursue overseas internship, studies or work in a global environment.

1) Course Approach:
•The lesson is designed to be bilingual class. The lesson with be conducted mainly in English. Only key concept will be explained and translated in Japanese.
•Lecture materials and case study will be mixed with English and some Japanese.

•授業はバイリンガルクラスになるように設計されています。
•講義で主に英語で行われます。キーコンセプトのところが日本語で説明され、翻訳されます。
•講義資料とケーススタディは英語または日本語が両方、順番に使います。

2)Requirement from students:
•Students who have motivation to improve English reading, writing and communication
•Students who are interested to learn about venture business.
•Students who wish to experience bilingual class through active participation
•Students who wish to prepare themselves for overseas internship or studies in a English speaking environment
•Minimum level of English is required.

2)対象学生の条件:
•英語の読み書き能力を向上させる意欲がある学生
•基本的な英語を使用してベンチャービジネスを学ぶことに興味がある学生。
•活発なアクティブラーニングによりバイリンガルクラスを体験と挑戦したい学生
•海外インターンシップ、留学や英語を話す環境の興味がある学生
•適当な英語のレベルが望ましい。

3)Course Preparation
About 3 hours of preparation for each case study (especially for English case). The course combines case study and practical project for learning. Students are expected to have group discussion during class.

3) コースの準備
1ケースあたり最低3時間の予習を行うこと。本講座はケースと実践プロジェクトで構成されています。受講者はクラス内でのグループワークと討論が要求されます。

4) Report
There will be pre-lesson case report submission for every class. Details and submission will be informed

Active participation and communication using English is expected. However, communication in Japanese can be accepted.
•Assignment submission should be in English. Submission in Japanese can be accepted, but higher marks will be awarded for English submission.

•積極的な参加と英語によるコミュニケーションが期待されます。ただし、日本語のコミュニケーションも受け入れられます。
•課題の提出は英語で行う必要があります。日本語での提出も可能ですが、英語の提出にはより高い得点が与えられます

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Dr Goi is a professor in the Faculty of Management at NUCB Business School. He received his PhD in Media and Governance from Keio University and MBA at Waseda University in Japan. His research and teaching fields include Design Thinking, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Development. Dr Goi has rich experience in management research about student-based venture creation in Japan and the ASEAN region. His publication titled “Dynamic Capability for the Success of Student-Based Gestation Ventures” was awarded the Best Journal Paper Award at the 12th Association for Policy Informatics Conference held in Japan in 2016. In recent years, Goi Hoe Chin employed collaborative and remote based design thinking methods to create solutions for regional towns in Chiba, Kanagawa, Aichi and Gifu prefectures in Japan. His corporate partners include Toyota Corporation, Ricoh Corporation, Tokyu Land Corporation, Ena Kawakamiya, Showa Lifestyle Museum etc. The design thinking project with Toyota Corporation was chosen as a “Best Partnership Award” (Finalist) at AMBA & BGA’s Excellence Awards in 2021.

(実務経験 Work experience)


Prior to his academic and research work, Dr has possessed diverse working experienced in private, government and non profit sector in Singapore for more than 10 years. He has served as a manager in several regional Community Development Councils (government) in Singapore for about 10 years. He has contributed to the development and implementation of regional policies, and organised community and welfare projects that created social impact on the local community.

In addition, Dr has also acted at the Assistant Director in National Volunteerism and Philanthropy Centre to develop partnership development and consultation on corporate social responsibility (CSR) program for several corporation, such as, Avanade (Asia) and DHL (Singapore).
