What is happening and what has happened across the globe affect the way we live today. This course, therefore, is intended to provide students with an opportunity to learn, think, and debate about various topics relating to the world which could be useful for the post-graduation careers.

The purpose of this course is NOT to learn basic terms and concepts taught in a "textbook" and remember them for exams. Rather, the goal here is to provide students with opportunities to obtain or improve an ability to analyze an event from different perspectives as well as an ability to construct and present own arguments through various topics relating to Japan and the world.

There is no required textbook for this course. Instead we focus on "cases" as our main readings, and students are expected to submit "assignments" as preparation reports. If needed, supplemental readings and information are listed in the cases or assignments.

It is recommended to utilize the Central Information Center (Library) for preparing for class and homework.

評価の留意事項　Notes on Evaluation Criteria

This course uses a 100-point system.

＊＊＊Class Contribution 85 points (85%）＊＊＊
Each student is expected to contribute to class through the following activities.
-Presenting an argument or opinion during class discussions or in a form of individual or group presentation
-Asking a question relating to the class topics

Students can earn up to 5 points each time, and overall, students can earn full 85 points by doing so 17 times throughout the 7-week course (Please note that some comments, such as "I don't know," "I agree with XX," or any disrespectful comments, do not count for credit. Points may be reduced if any comments or behaviors are in violation of university rules. Finally, the failure to attend a number of days to satisfy university rules will result in no passing grade).

Students must submit 3 preparation reports ("assignments") for Week 4, 5, and 6. Each report, submitted in time and satisfied all requirements, is worth 5 points.
