授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

The main objective of this course is to understand the Supply Chain Management (SCM) process. SCM is about the movement of material and information among different firms involved in the value addition process, from the first stage of raw material to distribution of the final product to end customers. We will take an interdisciplinary approach to develop our understanding of Supply Chain Networks by discussing issues from marketing (distribution channels), finance (investment and risk management), operations management (business process), and logistics (transportation network) among others. The course also discusses optimal ways to manage supply chains of different multinational corporations (MNCs) according to their size and mode of operations in their respective markets. We will discuss the social and ethical responsibilities of managers while dealing with different situations while reinforcing NUCB’s mission of educating innovative and ethical leaders. The course is designed to include “Case Studies” of different companies to explain the theoretical concepts with real-world examples.

Course Approach
The course contents will include lecture handouts, class presentations, case studies and other discussion materials provided beforehand or brought into the class by the instructor. The format of this course will follow lectures and discussions with an emphasis on understanding and evaluation of issues faced by global companies while managing their supply chains.

Readings (cases or discussion material) are provided beforehand and assigned for each class; Participants are required to prepare for at least three hours per case study in this course. The emphasis will be on student responsibility for learning through active application of course content in case studies, exercises, etc. and through active participation in class discussions. Active participation and preparation for the class are requirements for this course.

Feedback
Evaluation and feedback on quizzes, assignments, and presentations will be provided by the instructor.

Active participation and shared learning is at the core of the case method learning.Participants are asked to limit their use of electronic devices (e.g., laptops, smartphones) during classroom sessions in support of this model. Online searches and generative AI tools, even if related to the case discussion, are discouraged while class is in session.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Louie Wong is a Professor and an Associate Dean at NUCB Business School, Nagoya University of Commerce and Business, Japan. He received his PhD in Information Systems from the City University of Hong Kong, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor. Louie’s research focus on the intersection of technology and human behaviour. His research interests include action research, AI in business, digital leadership, digital transformation, social media and supply chain management. His research has been published in Information & Management, Information Systems Journal, International Journal of Information Management, Journal of Information Technology among others. Louie is currently an associate editor at Information Systems Journal.

(実務経験 Work experience)


Besides, Louie is also a seasoned business executive with decades of industry experience in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to his academic career, Louie served in various senior management positions at leading multinational companies such as Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), Compaq, Check Point Technologies, and Citrix. His last industry position was the Chief Marketing Officer of a listed company in the new media industry.
