Course Overview
Mission Statementとの関係性 / Connection to our Mission Statement
This course aligns with NUCB's mission of educating innovative and ethical leaders with "Frontier Spirits" by enabling students to conduct original case research at the intersection of business and information technology in both regional and global contexts. Students learn to examine how organizations create and capture value through data, information systems, and digital innovation, and to critically evaluate the managerial decisions that these technologies demand.
Importance of this course
Case Writing Seminar I is the first course in the series. In this seminar, students identify a real-world management problem often one shaped by digital transformation, information systems, data-driven decision making, or technology adoption and translate it into a compelling, teachable business case. Global BBA students are required to submit and present a case to fulfill the graduation requirements.
Achievement Goal
Upon completion of Case Writing Seminar I, students should be able to develop a case writing proposal that incorporates original thinking and critical evaluation of real-world business cases. Students are expected to present the proposal with a clearly defined decision problem (the "case hook"), a supporting data and evidence plan, and a detailed action plan and timeline for completing the full case.

All classes are conducted in a workshop manner. The seminar requires a gradual buildup of the case and insight note by students. Written submissions, structured peer and instructor feedback, and subsequent revisions are integral to the course design. Between sessions, students conduct desk and field research on their focal organization, gather supporting evidence and data, and revise their draft in response to the feedback received in class.

Guidelines for Classroom Technology and Proper Use of Course Materials
- Active participation and shared learning is at the core of the case method learning. Participants are asked to limit their use of electronic devices (e.g., laptops, smartphones) during classroom sessions in support of this model. Even with permission granted, devices should only be used in the classroom in service to the case discussion. Online searches and generative AI tools, even if related to the case discussion, are discouraged while class is in session.
- Students are prohibited from using the course materials (including cases) distributed by the university for any purpose other than participation in the designated class. Students must not input, process or test course materials with any artificial intelligence (AI) tools, bots, software, or platforms without the author's permission. These actions violate the terms of use for the course materials and may also constitute copyright infringement.
- Please refer to the "Classroom Technology Guidelines / Guidelines for Properly Using Course Materials" for details, and follow the instructor's directions. You are expected to comply with these guidelines responsibly.
