【Connection to our Mission Statement】

Thorough this class, students will have their Japanese four skills and "the ability to bridge the gap between New Asia and the rest of the world".

【Importance of this course】

This course is designed for students with no prior experience of studying Japanese.

The objective of INTRODUCTORY JAPANESE 0 are:
(1) to have a basic understanding of sentence structures, grammar and vocabulary of Japanese.
(2) to be familiar with texts written in hiragana, katakana, and simple kanjis.
(3) to be able to use and comprehend commonly used phrases in daily communication with the university community.
(4) to be able to deliver personal information, experiences, simple comments, etc. in conversations in Japanese.
(5) to develop strategic skills for getting information about the Japanese language through communication with native Japanese speakers.

Learning goals of this course are LG2(Diversity Awareness) , LG4(Effective Communication) and LG7 International Perspectives (BA).

In this course, we will conduct class discussions using case studies in order to achieve the learning goals. The students attending this course may be required to write a preparatory report and must participate in the class discussions.
【Achievement Goal】

By studying this course, students will be able to get beginner level to N5 Japanese level as JLPT scale.

Things that students will be able to do in Japanese at the end of the course are:
(1) Identifying oneself.
(2) Introducing and identifying one's family.
(3) Telling likes and dislikes.
(4) Telling one's favorite sports, music, etc.
(5) Telling one's daily life.
(6) Talking about how one spend or spend the Friday night, weekend, etc.

The purpose of INTRODUCTORY JAPANESE 0 is to lay down a solid core of Japanese on which students can build up skills and abilities in performing different activities in Japanese.

This lecture is drills, discussions, acting or various activities will be prepared and you will be requested to tell or submit the short essay (in Japanese) about yourself at the end of each unit.

As classes will be conducted mainly in Japanese, students are expected to prepare lessons in advance. Homework will be assigned regularly to reinforce learning. All students are expected to study Kanji according to the Kanji work sheets in and out of the class.

It is desirable to use Univ library.
