This seminar aims to guide students who are revising their case and insight note drafts as part of their graduation requirements. Students will be exposed to concepts and examples of prior students' cases and insight notes so that they could write cases that incorporate aspects of critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and international business.

授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

With this seminar, students will deepen their understanding of cases and insight notes' elements and revise their prior drafts with regular feedback from the instructor.
By participating in this seminar, students will be able to write and revise a complete set of case and insight notes that will be submitted as a part of their graduation requirements.

All classes will be conducted in a workshop manner.
The seminar requires a gradual buildup of the case and insight notes written by students. Written submissions, feedback, and subsequent revisions are part of the seminar design.

評価の留意事項 Notes on Evaluation Criteria

Active participation is expected and it represents 30% of the total grade. Weekly submission of case and insight note revisions represents 20% of the final grade. Peer assessment/evaluation represents 10%. The final submission of the completed case and insight note will contribute to 30% of the total course grade.

  1. ケースメソッド教育の中核は、積極的な参加と知識の共有です。この教育を支えるため参加者は授業中の電子機器(例:スマートフォン、ノートパソコン)の使用を制限するよう求められます。許可を得た場合でも、教室内では電子機器は、ケース討議に資する目的でのみ使用してください。授業中は、たとえケース討議に関連していても、検索エンジンや生成AIの使用は避けて下さい。
  2. 配布教材(ケースを含む)は指定された授業への参加以外の目的で利用しないで下さい。著者の権利、著作権、特定情報の機密性を保護するため、許可なく教材を個人や組織(生成AI を含む)に提供することはできません。このルールは、印刷物・電子教材のいずれにも適用されます。
  1. Active participation and shared learning is at the core of the case method learning.Participants are asked to limit their use of electronic devices (e.g., laptops, smartphones) during classroom sessions in support of this model. Even with permission granted, devices should only be used in the classroom in service to the case discussion. Online searches and generative AI tools, even if related to the case discussion, are discouraged while class is in session.
  2. Students are prohibited from using the course materials (including cases) distributed by the university for any purpose other than participation in the designated class.Students must not input, process or test course materials with any artificial intelligence (AI) tools, bots, software, or platforms without the author’s permission. These actions violate the terms of use for the course materials and may also constitute copyright infringement.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Sandy Wong is a passionate and experienced educator. Sandy received her MBA and Master of Management degree in General Management from Macquarie University Graduate School of Management (MGSM), Australia. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Research and Professional Studies in Education from University of Bristol, UK. Prior to joining NUCB, she had been teaching undergraduate business courses at City University of Hong Kong for over 16 years. Her teaching quality and passion were recognized with a number of teaching excellence and student mentoring awards during her tenure. Her last role with the university was the Programme Leader of the BBA in Business Operations Management programme.

Besides teaching, Sandy actively engaged in liaising and organizing activities with professional bodies and business enterprises to enhance students’ professional development and enrich their learning experiences. With her extensive industry network, she has lined up with senior business executives and leaders from various industries to facilitate the educational, social, and personal growth for students.

Sandy is also a seasoned business practitioner with extensive industry experience in business consulting, executive development, hospitality and services management, and supply chain management in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to her academic career, Sandy served in various senior management positions at leading multinational companies including Zurich Insurance Group, JD Edwards (merged and acquired by Oracle Corporation), and Hotel Information Systems.

Sandy provided project-management consultancy services to companies in financial services, public services, airlines, apparel, retail, hotels, etc. The service scopes include enterprise resource planning and organisational change solutions, helping clients implement new initiatives and improve business performance. Major clients include: Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific Catering Services, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Li & Fung, China Insurance Group, QP Group, HKSAR Correction Services Department, Merlin Gerlin, Hallmark Card, HK Land & Property, HK Housing & Society, Hotel Shilla Seoul, Crown Prince Hotel, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Elizabeth Hotel Singapore, Island Shangri-La Hotel, Hotel Conrad, China World Beijing, etc.
