Student’s Responsibilities:
1. The course requires continuous work throughout the term, which includes reading and solving cases conceptually and numerically, and preparing and presenting the analysis of a specific corporation.
2. Students are required to record their contribution both at the group and class discussion and rate their own contribution to their expectation in a “Course Participation Form” that will be distributed at the beginning of each class sessions. The filled “Course Participation Form” should be returned at the end of the class.
3. Students are expected to attend all scheduled class meetings. Failure to attend all class sessions will negatively impact your final grade. Class sessions should not be missed unless an emergency situation takes place, in which case students should notify the instructor via email before class.
4. Individual case studies’ assignments and group reports/presentations should be submitted before each class meeting using Google Classroom.
5. Use of phone, tablet, smart watch and other communication devices for purposes other than learning are strictly prohibited during class. Students using laptop for non-learning purposes during the classroom will be noted and it will negatively impact your final grade.

Access to University Electronic Mail and Google Classroom:
Students are expected to have access to university email and Google Classroom. The syllabus, lecture slides, and other pertinent information will be distributed by Google Classroom and students are expected to check it frequently.

Learning Method:
This course combines the use of three learning methods: summaries of concepts and tools from the instructor; case analysis and discussion; and writing an independent business analysis project.

Case Method Learning
It is important that you adequately prepare for assigned case discussions prior to each class session. You will be expected to have reviewed and “solved” the case prior to the actual class discussion. Individual case solution to assignments should be uploaded to Google Classroom well before the class and it will be graded.

At the beginning of each class session, 20 minutes will be dedicated to group discussion on case that have been assigned for discussion on that day. The member of each group will be randomly assigned at the beginning of each class session. Within the group, you are expected to first individually reflect on how you would answer the questions for the case. Then you should clarify your individual analysis in the class discussion session. Active discussion on both the group and in-class sessions is encouraged and will be assessed.

Individual & Group Business Analysis Project
The project will give you an opportunity to apply in a real-world situation all the business analysis tools and skills you learned throughout the course. The project is the analysis of a multinational publicly traded company of your interest. The company selection has to be pre-approved by the instructor to prevent duplicates. In the Week 4 of the course, students should submit their preliminary analysis draft for feedback. This draft will not be graded.

Each student is responsible to analyze a single company and must form a group that consists of 4 students to represent an industry. The group will present business analysis of the chosen companies and industry at Week 7 of the course for 15 minutes. The final report (individual report) is due one week after the last meeting of the course (Week 8).

The final written report should at least include the following contents:

評価の留意事項 Notes on Evaluation Criteria

Grading:
Your grade will be determined based on your total score on the following items:
Discussion participation and attendance 40%
Individual case studies assignments 20%
Individual Business Analysis Project Report 30%
Group presentation of the final project 10%

In addition, your final grade will be based on a curve in which the bottom 15~20% of the class will not get a passing grade. Those who fail to get a passing grade could apply for a "make-up report" and get another opportunity to revise your individual final report.

Students are expected to ask questions and actively contribute to the class discussions. Active class participation and attendance will be noted and it represents 40% of the total grade. Submission of individual case studies assignments contribute 20% of the final grade. The individual written report and group presentation of the final project contributes to 30% and 10% of the grade, respectively.

Academic Integrity:
Academic integrity is essential to ensure genuine learning. There is no tolerance for plagiarism or academic dishonesty in any form, including, but not limited to, sharing answers with others, copying answers or papers, or passing off someone else’s work as one’s own.
