授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

Seminar 5 is aimed to lead each student to summarize the findings of their research and write a 1000-word Discussion Chapter of their graduation thesis. This is done through providing students opportunities to present and discuss the content of their research and to follow the steps of writing, peer-reviewing, and revising their essay.
Students are thus required throughout the course to not only do what they are told to do but also think carefully about the task and find their own answers to each assignment. They must have a motivation to write a 1000-word Discussion Chapter in English, be able to actively participate in discussions and make comments on classmates’ presentations and essays, and be polite to classmates and the instructor; do not be late for or be absent from classes without a reason, do not disturb class sessions by talking, using smartphones, etc.

(i) acquire the skills to interpret the data they collected through their research,
(ii) understand the content and the purpose of a Discussion Chapter,
(iii) write a complete, final-version Discussion Chapter of their Graduation Thesis.

・Homework is assigned every week. Reviewing what students have learned after class and preparing their homework are essential for succeeding in this course. This should take about two hours every week.
・ Feedback on essays will be given during class and office hours individually.
・ Students are strongly recommended to use the resources available in the Information Center (Library) to prepare for their homework and essays.
