This course will take students through the essential skills for using English at work. The focus is on functional language that will help students perform effectively in English in the workplace. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills will be practised equally and in a variety of professional contexts.

This course will take a learner-centred approach supported by Participant-Centered Learning (PCL) requiring students to partake in independent study outside of class in order to help prepare them for ask-based applications within class.

Group, peer and other forms of interaction will occur throughout the term along with individual work.

Supplementary materials will be used to support the learning of Modules 1-3. At the end of the book, there are two extra sections which students can do at any time – the Grammar files offer some useful grammar notes and practice in a business context, and the BEC Preliminary practice test helps students familiarize themselves with the format of the exam if they plan to sit it at the end of the course.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Wendy Li is an assistant professor at NUCB. She obtained her PhD from Michigan State University, USA. She taught English language courses in China and English language teaching courses in the USA. Her research interests include identity development of language learners and teachers, transnational students' language and literacy learning.
