授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course
This course will introduce you to central questions, theories, debates, and research findings in the areas of first and second language development, with an emphasis on the latter. The course builds on the interconnections between from-birth, early, and late bi/multilingualism and emphasizes the central role that cognition, society, and education play in shaping multiple-language learning across the life span. Key topics will include definitions of bilingualism; development of bi/multilingual capacities from comprehension to production and from sounds, to words, to full sentences and discourse; codeswitching; bilinguality and cognitive development; and social, cultural, and educational perspectives on bi/multilingualism.
