This course is designed to enhance students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills while improving their English proficiency. It aims to shape students’ leadership identity in line with NUCB’s ethos of “Frontier Spirit,” which encourages active engagement in industries and society.

授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

The primary goal of this course is to prepare Business Studies students for the TOEIC exam in November. Over the 7-week course, students will develop practical skills in:
1. TOEIC Exam Strategies: Test-taking techniques for both Listening and Reading sections.
2. TOEIC-Related Grammar and Vocabulary: Building the foundational language skills
3. Effective Communication: Improving overall English communication strategies for business contexts.
4. Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Enhancing analytical thinking through case studies and real-world applications.

事前学修と事後学修の内容、レポート、課題に対するフィードバック方法 Pre- and Post-Course Learning, Report, Feedback methods

This course adopts student-centered learning approach. Students will develop independent learning skills through interactive activities, discussions, case analysis and TOEIC-related tasks under the guidance of the instructor. Below are the breakdowns of the learning methods:

1) Flipped classroom: The classroom highly values students’ own responsibility for learning and participation. Students will review teaching materials (e.g. cases readings, TOEIC-texts and vocabulary lists) at home. Classroom time will be focuses on discussions and activities.

2) Case method: Three cases will be selected or adapted by the instructor and distributed to students in advance.

3) Formative Feedback: Continuous feedback will be provided during and after class based on student participation, assignments, and performance in activities.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Qianting Lu obtained Ph.D. in English Literature from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Her research focuses on Asian diaspora, global Anglophone literature and life writing. Prior to joining NUCB Undergraduate School, she worked as a writing tutor and (senior) research assistant at the City University of Hong Kong.
