授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

政治学の基本的な理論を習得することを通じて、政治を抽象的に把握できるようにします。あくまで題材は政治ですが、目の前の現実を抽象的に理解することは、意思決定やその検証において大いに役立ちます。この授業ではそうした力を育んでいきたいと思います。
This course is designed to help students grasp politics in an abstract manner through mastering the basic theories of political science. Although the subject matter is politics, an abstract understanding of actual events is very useful for decision making and its verification. The course will help to train such ability and improve a decision making in the future.

(学習方法)
教科書の該当章とケースがある場合はケースとを熟読して授業に臨んでください。毎回予習レポートの提出を課します。これらの学習を毎回1時間程度求めます。講義では、最終レポートの執筆がしやすくなるように、講義で扱う理論や概念と実際の事件との結びつきについて考えることを促すことを目指します。予習レポート、最終レポートは全てGoogle Classroomにアップロードしてもらいます。

評価の留意事項 Notes on Evaluation Criteria

評価は主に2回の(最終)レポートと期末テストによって決定します。レポートについては別紙で形式と期限を定めているので熟読の上期限と形式を守って提出してください。また、テストについては、教科書の理解を直接問うものではなく、予習レポートや最終レポートへの取り組みを問うものとする予定です。そのため、単位取得や成績上位獲得を目指す際は予習レポートと2回の最終レポートにしっかり取り組むことを勧めます。

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 

名古屋商科大学専任講師。東京大学修士(法学)。主に、アメリカ大統領の政府内政治(対官僚)と政府間政治(対議会)を、計量分析の手法を用いて研究している。論文に、「危機における政策形成: 省庁間調整かホワイトハウス内調整か」『季刊行政管理研究』、「1960 年 –80 年代における大統領の 省庁間調整活用の変容」 『アメリカ太平洋研究』などがある。

Takaharu Saito is Assistant Professor at Nagoya University of Commerce and Business. Takaharu’s research studies the presidency and bureaucracy in advanced democracies with a specific focus on the United States and Japan. Recently, he studies how interagency coordination of federal agencies affects the president's control over bureaucracy in the U.S. Takaharu uses a broad range of methods in his research, including machine learning (natural language processing), causal inference and formal models.
