西洋の哲学を学 ぶことはどんな意味があるのか、それを疑問に思う学生も少なくはないだろう。高校においては「倫理」という、それほど重要ではないように思われた科目を、 どうして再び大学において学び直さなければならないのか。しかしながら私たちの社会の多くの部分は、西洋哲学の中で培われてきた考え方によって成り立って いるのである。
What is the purpose for learning the European Philosophy? Why do we have to study the minor field in the high school education again in the university? However the European Philosophy doesn't play minor role in our society at all.
授業の目的（意義） / Importance of this course
民主主義、憲法、正義、人権、尊厳・・・、これらの、私たちの社会の根幹に関わっている「価値」は、西洋の思想が長い時間をかけて構築して きたものなのである。西洋の思想を学ぶこと、それは、私たちが私たちの生きている社会について学ぶことにほかならない。
"Democracy", "Constitution", "Human right", "Human dignity"... these fundamental "values" in our country are originated actually in the European thought. To learn the European philosophy is nothing but to learn ourselves, our society.
到達目標 / Achievement Goal
普段当然のこととして受け入れてお り、考えたこともないような社会の基礎について注意を向け、考えることは、受講者が経済社会において働くとしても、あるいは、まったく異なる生き方を選択 したとしても、貴重な経験となることであろう。
The basic ideas for our society, which are too natural to be consciously thought, must be handled in the course of the lectures.
