授業の概要 Course Overview

Misson Statementとの関係性 / Connection to our Mission Statement

This course invites you on a journey to explore fundamental questions: What is language? What is linguistics? How does language relate to humans? And ultimately, what defines our humanity? Building on the foundational knowledge and analytical skills from English Linguistics 1, we will collaboratively delve into these inquiries.
English Linguistics 2 illuminates the uniqueness and diversity of language within society, examining how speakers perceive, learn, experience, and transform language within political, social, and cultural frameworks of power and privilege. We will apply our knowledge and skills to contemporary issues, enhancing our understanding of the intrinsic relationship between language, society, and human beings.
Through this process, we will become better equipped to accept differences and embrace humanity. Additionally, we will explore what makes us human while fostering a sense of social responsibility. Together, we will envision the future roles of language in various disciplines and transdisciplinary studies within our evolving global society.
