授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

SEMINAR 2 is the second course of the sequence (SEMINAR 1-6). Through the courses, students will develop the necessary research skills to conduct a project leading to the production of a 4,000 word thesis in English. The aim of SEMINAR 2 is to help students decide on their research questions and produce an introduction to their theses in English. In Term 3, students will learn the elements of a thesis introduction and start writing the introduction. In Term 4, the course introduces the literature review process, showing how to search the most relevant resources for their research topics. Students are expected to familiarise themselves with their research topics to prepare for writing a literature review in SEMINAR 3.

This course will be taught using lecture, group discussion and presentations. To be successful in class, students need to spend time on required assignments and come to class well prepared. Oral and written feedback will be provided for each assignment in class.

Final Report (portfolio: 20% + introduction to thesis drafts : 30%) : 50%

  1. Active participation and shared learning is at the core of the case method learning.Participants are asked to limit their use of electronic devices (e.g., laptops, smartphones) during classroom sessions in support of this model. Even with permission granted, devices should only be used in the classroom in service to the case discussion. Online searches and generative AI tools, even if related to the case discussion, are discouraged while class is in session.
  2. Students are prohibited from using the course materials (including cases) distributed by the university for any purpose other than participation in the designated class.Students must not input, process or test course materials with any artificial intelligence (AI) tools, bots, software, or platforms without the author’s permission. These actions violate the terms of use for the course materials and may also constitute copyright infringement.
