The main goal of this course is to prepare you to learn your business writing skills in English. Since you will be expected to write an emails and memos in English throughout your career, it is important that you are able to deliver your messages clearly in writing.

In order to express yourself clearly when writing in English, you need to have a well-developed vocabulary, adequate knowledge of English grammar as well as the ability to apply that knowledge to your writing, and an understanding of reader/writer expectations in English.

This learner-centered course will be guided by a lecture. Students will have several chances to practice writing in-class essays under time constraints. The students will also learn grammar as necessary so that they will be able to use complex and varied sentence patterns effectively in their writing. Group and peer interaction will occur throughout the term, and will be supplemented with individual work.

Regular assignments will provide students with a basic evaluation of their learning and study efforts, representing 20% of the final grade. 担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor
Myeongeun Son is an assistant professor in the faculty of International Studies at NUCB. Before joining NUCB, she taught Second Language Learning, Pedagogical Grammar, American Language and Culture, and English to undergraduate as well as secondary school students. Her research interests lie in development of Second Language (L2), L2 processing, and Second Language Acquisition (SLA). She has mainly investigated how L2 learners process and produce L2 and the extent to which their L2 processing and production are linked to their L1 ones. In addition, she has also conducted research on L2 learners' attention and socialization. Her research has appeared in journals, such as Applied Psycholinguistics.
