Course Overview

Misson Statementとの関係性 / Connection to our Mission Statement

Importance of this course

1. Relation with the mission statement of NUCB Statistical thinking and statistical approach are getting more and more important not only in social sciences such as economics and business but also in humanities such as psychology, history, and linguistics as well as in natural sciences such as engineering, science, medicine, and pharmacy. It is very useful for those who challenge new plans and lead business society to study and master statistics at universities. I hope you can somehow get an ability to survive in this competitive and global world by taking this course.
2. About the course
1) Significance: We master statistical thinking and statistical analysis useful not only in school but also after graduation.
2) Background: It is desirable for students to learn statistics, which is quite oftern made use of in subjects such as economics and business, at an early stage in order to make productive four years of study at universities.
3) Contents: We learn how to describe and solve in terms of statistics many statistical problems and examples in various business scenes. Thus we learn basic statistical inference.
4) Importance: It is important to learn basic statistics, which is applied in many areas including economics and business.
In this course, we will conduct class discussions using case studies in order to achieve the learning goals. The students attending this course may be required to prepare for some questions and to participate in the class discussions.

Learning Outcomes

You can master statistical ways of thinking which are essential nowadays. They are useful to understand
issues in social science such as finance, marketing, economics, business, etc. as well as
in humanities. In particular, you can understand how to calculate probability related to normal distribution and concepts such as public-opinion polls, sample surveys, risk management, and quality control.
