授業の概要 Course Overview


In line with the NUCB mission of educating innovative and ethical leaders, this course aims to foster English language skills of the students so that they can be active communicators bridging the gap between New Asia and the rest of the world.
English Writing 1 is an introductory college-level writing course designed to improve students’ critical thinking and academic writing skills.
Students will learn the conventions of academic writing, and instruction on the stages of the writing process—from prewriting exercises through rough drafts and revisions—will form a key part of the curriculum. A strong emphasis will be placed on active participation from all students.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Sugene Kim is an associate professor in the Department of English Studies at Nagoya University of Commerce & Business. She holds a master’s degree in professional English writing and a PhD degree in applied linguistics from Ewha Womans University. Her research specializations lie in second language acquisition and the academic literacy development of learners of English as a foreign language (EFL). She is particularly interested in examining the cognitive and linguistic strategies utilized by adult EFL learners to address writing difficulties in different rhetorical contexts. Her research interests also include morphosyntax and lexicography.
