授業の概要 Course Overview


The present course is offered to Business and Foreign Studies majors. The course will equip the students with essential English communication skills and global competences as stated in the mission of the University, such as "frontier spirit" and skills necessary to bridge the gap between New Asia and the rest of the world. The students will learn basic business English vocabulary as well as communication strategies, which will enable them to successfully navigate the complex world of global business.
Aims

The aims of this course are:
• to improve students' English communication skills in business situations.
• to introduce and cultivate knowledge on topics such as business leadership, organisation and international markets.
. to help students improve their TOEIC score

By the end of this course, the students will demonstrate ability to
1. Make requests, introduce a company and personal history, make plans, express opinions and preferences, give directions and entertain a guest in English.
2. Carry a short conversation in a business setting
3. Achieve a minimum TOEIC score of 400 points

ATTENTION! This is a TOEIC compulsory subject. The students are expected to sit the June TOEIC test on campus. Failure to do so will result in an 'Incomplete" (不完全履修) grade in this course.

Objectives

By the end of this course, the students will

Have had the opportunity to become a competent and confident user of elementary Business English
Have been introduced to some of the key topics and themes in contemporary Business English
Understand the style of easy business communication and given the opportunity to develop the basic skills of making presentations, taking part in meetings, negotiating, telephoning and using English in social contexts
Deal confidently with simple business texts in English

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Prof. Nae holds an MA in translation and a PhD with a dissertation in linguistics from Nagoya University. She has been teaching English to students of all ages and levels for over two decades. Besides an extensive teaching experience, Prof. Nae has been actively involved in research and translation/interpretation work. Her research interests are translation studies, internationalization in higher education, gender studies, and active learning in Japanese clasrooms.
