This course aims to advance the English fluency of the NUCB students in order to foster their frontier spirit and enable their global career.

We will focus on enhancing the English reading and listening skills of the students, the primary goal being aiding them to excel at their TOEIC test.

The primary goal of this course is to prepare the students for the TOEIC exam, which the students will take during the course and will amount to 15% of the grade.

After having successfully completed the course, the students will have improved their listening and reading skills necessary for taking the TOEIC exam, as well as improving their speaking skills via the case method employed during the course.

During the course, I will guide the students through the textbook so that they can have a better understanding of English grammar, vocabulary, idioms, and pronunciation. Each class, except for the first and the last class, will involve a vocabulary quiz covering the English words taught in the previous class. The case method will also be employed.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Ian Joo is a South Korean linguist specializing in linguistic typology. He obtained his BA in French literature at Université Laval (Canada) and MA in linguistics at National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan). He expects to obtain his PhD in linguistics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong) in early 2024.
