This course is the last in a four-term course that prepare 1st year students for TOEIC. It provides students with the foundation to learn the English language and productive and receptive skills to achieve a score of 500 at TOEIC tests.

Students are expected to improve their reading and listening skills and obtain a score of around 500 at TOEIC tests after completing this course.

This course will be guided by a lecture, which will be supported by independent study completed by the students outside of class.
Participant-Centered Learning (PCL) will be incorporated. The independent study outside of class will help prepare students for task-based application within the class and will include written as well as online homework tasks.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor
Fei Chen is an assistant professor at Nagoya University of Business and Commerce. He holds a BA in English (China University of Political Science and Law), a MSc in Modern Japanese Studies (University of Oxford), and a Ph.D in Interdisciplinary Information Studies (University of Tokyo). He is interested in transnational history, particularly the history of cultural exchange between Japan and China. He co-edited Alternative Representations of the Past: The Politics of History in Modern China (2020) and published his research in peer-reviewed journals like Sungkyun Journal of East Asian Studies, Journal of Modern Chinese History, International Journal of Asian Studies, Journal of Asian History, and Asian Studies Review.
(実務経験 Work experience)
Before coming to Nagoya, Fei Chen taught at Shanghai Normal University and was a visiting scholar at Harvard-Yenching Institute and University of Tokyo.
