The present course is the fourth of a four-term series offered to first-year students in the Faculty of International Studies. It focuses on developing Business English reading and listening skills, aiming to cultivate students with a 'frontier spirit,' global perspective, and the ability to contribute to the international business world where English serves as the primary language for business communication.

授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

The aim of this course is to prepare students for the TOEIC tests in May and November.
The ultimate goal of this course is to develop English communication skills and knowledge equivalent to a minimum TOEIC score of 500 points.

By the end of this course, students will demonstrate knowledge of:
1. The TOEIC test structure and format
2. Essential vocabulary and grammatical structures for TOEIC success
3. Effective TOEIC test-taking strategies
4. Professional communication strategies for business situations

1. TOEIC Skills: Students will learn effective strategies for taking the TOEIC test.
2. Speaking: Students will practice speaking English in class and receive regular feedback on their progress.
3. Listening: Students will develop listening comprehension skills, with particular focus on the TOEIC test listening section.
3. Reading: Students will engage in reading tasks designed to prepare them for the TOEIC test reading section.
4. Grammar: Grammar instruction will be tailored to students' needs and common TOEIC test requirements.
5. Vocabulary: Students will study from a comprehensive vocabulary list aligned with CEFR B1 level requirements and targeted toward success on the TOEIC Listening and Reading test.

評価の留意事項 Notes on Evaluation Criteria

Students must attend at least 11 out of 14 classes (approximately 80%) to be eligible for course evaluation
Students who fail to meet the minimum attendance requirement (11 classes) will receive an "Incomplete" (不完全履修) grade
Late assignments will be penalized with a 10% grade reduction per day
Make-up tests will only be given in cases of documented illness or emergency
Active participation in group work and case study discussions is essential for achieving a high class contribution score
Final grades will be determined based on the total points accumulated across all assessment categories

  1. ケースメソッド教育の中核は、積極的な参加と知識の共有です。この教育を支えるため参加者は授業中の電子機器(例:スマートフォン、ノートパソコン)の使用を制限するよう求められます。許可を得た場合でも、教室内では電子機器は、ケース討議に資する目的でのみ使用してください。授業中は、たとえケース討議に関連していても、検索エンジンや生成AIの使用は避けて下さい。

  1. Active participation and shared learning is at the core of the case method learning.Participants are asked to limit their use of electronic devices (e.g., laptops, smartphones) during classroom sessions in support of this model. Even with permission granted, devices should only be used in the classroom in service to the case discussion. Online searches and generative AI tools, even if related to the case discussion, are discouraged while class is in session.
  2. Students are prohibited from using the course materials (including cases) distributed by the university for any purpose other than participation in the designated class.Students must not input, process or test course materials with any artificial intelligence (AI) tools, bots, software, or platforms without the author’s permission. These actions violate the terms of use for the course materials and may also constitute copyright infringement.
