This course can help students to foster the development of innovative and ethical leaders who possess a "Frontier Spirit" by developing critical thinking skills, fostering awareness of social issues, and inspiring creative thinking and ethical leadership.
授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course
This course is an introduction to English and American literature, focusing on J. K. Rowling's novel Harry Potter series. Students will read and analyze the novel, exploring its themes, characters, and literary techniques. They will also study the historical and cultural context of the novel, as well as the author's life and influences. The course will develop students' skills in close reading, critical analysis, and effective communication through discussion, writing, and presentations.

This course will be guided by a lecture, group discussion and presentations, which will be supported by independent study completed by the students outside of class. After-class individual and group work is also encouraged to take place in the library.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor
名古屋大学大学院文学研究科人文学専攻博士後期課程にて博士(文学)を取得。愛知淑徳大学文学部助教を経て、現在名古屋商科大学経済学部専任講師。英語学を専門としており、統語論ならびに英語史の研究を行う。
Siyang Xia obtained his Ph.D. in English Linguistics from the Graduate School of Letters, Nagoya University. After working as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Letters, Aichi Shukutoku University, he is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Nagoya University of Commerce and Business. He specializes in English Linguistics and conducts research in syntax and historical linguistics.
