Mission Statementとの関係性 / Connection to our Mission Statement

The world, increasingly interconnected through globalization, is now at a major turning point. Geopolitical and geoeconomic tensions, rapid technological advancement—particularly in artificial intelligence—the restructuring of global supply chains, climate change, and demographic shifts are becoming ever more closely intertwined. While these developments create unprecedented opportunities for business, they also heighten uncertainty, complexity, and vulnerability.
In this environment, effective business leadership requires the ability to move beyond established models of success and singular perspectives. Leaders must be able to identify the underlying forces of change, engage with diverse stakeholders, frame critical questions, and exercise responsible judgment in situations where no single or obvious answer exists.
This course provides participants with a foundation in the strategic frameworks required to understand and navigate global business. At the same time, it encourages reflection on the significance of studying at NUCB Business School and, more fundamentally, on the value one seeks to create and the responsibilities one should assume as both a business leader and a member of society.
Through the case method and rigorous discussion among participants, the course develops the ability to examine complex managerial issues across differences in countries and regions, industries, cultures, and value systems. Participants are expected to deepen their capacity to identify the essence of complex challenges, integrate diverse knowledge and experience, and develop a broader perspective that connects the creation of corporate value with the resolution of societal challenges.
Ultimately, the course seeks to cultivate the “Frontier Spirit”: the capacity to view uncertainty not merely as a constraint, but as a source of new possibilities; to envision a desirable future; and to act with conviction to bring that future into being. Grounded in a strong ethical compass and a commitment to innovation, participants will develop the vision, judgment, and capacity for execution required to lead the sustainable development of both business and society, and to create new value and provide meaningful direction to the world from Japan and Asia.

Importance of this course

1. Where to Compete
2. How to Compete
3. How to Lead
The purpose of this course is not to provide an exhaustive body of knowledge on global management.
Rather, it is to examine how business leaders perceive and interpret their environment, define the problems that require managerial attention, choose among competing courses of action, and assume responsibility for the consequences of those choices in contexts characterized by complexity, uncertainty, and institutional and cultural diversity.
More specifically, participants will explore three fundamental managerial questions:
1. Where to Compete
How should a firm define what is “global,” “regional,” and “local” in relation to its own business, and in which markets and geographic arenas should it choose to compete?
2. How to Compete
How should managers identify and interpret differences across countries and regions, and how should they combine strategic approaches such as standardization, adaptation, arbitrage, and cross-border integration?
3. How to Lead
How should business leaders mobilize and transform organizations that span different institutional environments, cultures, value systems, and stakeholder interests, while making decisions that are both ethically responsible and sustainable?
Through case discussions, participants will not be expected to learn existing theories as predetermined “correct answers.” Instead, they will critically examine the assumptions, scope, and limitations of each framework and develop the ability to adapt and apply them to their own managerial contexts and practice.

Achievement Goal

CAGE、AAA、

Through this class, students will develop a global perspective and gain the ability to position their own countries, businesses, and personal activities on a global scale. They will understand the strategic essentials of global business and learn the essence of decision-making required in the complex international business environment.

Beyond merely addressing management issues, students will develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by modern society and the economy, recognizing the importance of value co-creation in corporate activities. Furthermore, they will explore useful theories and frameworks not only in international management but also in strategy and marketing, systematically reassessing their definitions, historical contexts, applications, and limitations to enhance their practical use.

This course will also examine the impact of digitalization on business, equipping students with perspectives necessary for responding to digital transformation (DX). Additionally, by drawing on Japanese management philosophies—such as Public Interest Capitalism—students will explore sustainable business models. Finally, they will develop an understanding of how to "define" the time-space boundaries required for global business expansion, navigate the opposing forces of integration and dispersion, and explore the essence of global management through case studies.
