In increasingly knowledge-intensive competition the ability to innovate depends on leaders who know how to create knowledge for shareholders and stakeholders. 授業の目的(意義) / Importance of this course

The purpose of the course is to help students to learn about knowledge management and its application, its importance for organizational competitiveness and for addressing global challenges. Without knowledge, there can be no innovation. Understanding the foundations of how knowledge is created and disseminated within organizations and ecosystems is a cornerstone for careers in business. Originating in the East and West, knowledge management combines both the human-centric and the technology-centric perspective to foster meaningful innovation.

This highly interactive, case-based course will challenge you to put to practice key ideas to help you solve real world business problems. Expanding your range of ideas and the depth of their exploration, Knowledge Management will enhance your prospects in the job market because it helps you develop key creative and critical thinking skills that employers covet.

The course is based on traditional and interactive components, case discussions and on field work. A laptop is required as some course materials, surveys and other material will be distributed electronically on the day of each class.



For each case:
Please allocate at least 3 hours of preparatory study for each case. This includes reading the case one time quickly and one time slowly. Occasionally articles and videos are included in the recommended readings, which may take an additional 30 minutes.
For each case study are need to write a preparatory report. Please note: these reports are no longer than a A4 page, they require therefore more time.


Based on the readings (cases and or articles) a preparatory report of max one A4 page needs to be submitted before the start of each class. The report for all cases consists of identifying the main protagonist’s key questions, at least two alternative options to answer the question and the justification for your choice.

Submission Deadline: Before the start of the first class
Submission Method: Submit via Google Classroom (one A4 page for each case, no PowerPoint)



Field work has four components; all need to be delivered within 2 pages A4 deliverable:
First, provide an account of the current state of knowledge management at your employer or another company that you know well or have good access to.
Second, develop alternative opportunities to improve KM and the company of your choice.
Third, justify your choice of solutions.
Four, develop an action plan for implementation

Submission Deadline: Before the start of the last class
Submission Method: Submit via Google Classroom (2 A4 pages, no PowerPoint)


Assignment: This AI related assignment will ask you to use an LLM of your choice (e.g. ChatGPT). Details will be explained in the first class.
