事前学修と事後学修の内容、レポート、課題に対するフィードバック方法 Pre- and Post-Course Learning, Report, Feedback methods

The course comprises a mix of class discussions, lectures, as well as brief individual and group assignments. No prior knowledge of economics is needed. Oral participation, a concise group project and two quizzes contribute 50%, 30% and 20% respectively of the final grade. Some sessions require upfront case preparation; a timely review of session handouts and review questions after class is necessary. An reader is put on reserve.

a.m.: Life before Microsoft - presents a historical perspective on the evolution of administrative and economic systems and discusses concerns about the so-called crisis of capitalism and the limits of standard economic reasoning in dealing with these. This is followed by an overview of the course.

p.m.: Markets, Strategies & Welfare - discusses and evaluates micro-economic principles of demand and supply to reason company strategies and their well welfare economic consequences.

a.m. The Economics of Cooperation & Distrust introduces the language of institutional and transaction-cost economics to discuss from company organization and JVs to issues of bureaucratic and regulatory governance.

p.m.: The Regulation of Industry & Technological Advance discusses the need for authorities – legislators, regulators and managers – to stipulate efficient rules and illustrates resulting challenges by discussing recent regulatory developments in science-based industries and digital markets.

economic performance to derive a quadrant-model of a closed economy and illustrate supply-side and demand side options for changing income via labour market adjustments, changes in productivity, monetary and fiscal policy.

p.m. Economic Policy & Political Biases presents mainstream perspectives on obtaining typical policy objectives before focusing on the key political references of economic liberalism and republicanism in general and in the specific context of
assessing the causes, consequences, and options for tackling income inequality.

What is required to get “one’s house in order”, how can adjustment costs be managed – or shifted?

p.m. Challenges Ahead – Global Outlook applies a real option approach to discuss calls for collective actions to manage issues ranging from renewable and non-renewable resources, sustainable energy supply to food security or affordable healthcare.

  1. Active participation and shared learning is at the core of the case method learning.Participants are asked to limit their use of electronic devices (e.g., laptops, smartphones) during classroom sessions in support of this model. Even with permission granted, devices should only be used in the classroom in service to the case discussion. Online searches and generative AI tools, even if related to the case discussion, are discouraged while class is in session.
  2. Students are prohibited from using the course materials (including cases) distributed by the university for any purpose other than participation in the designated class.Students must not input, process or test course materials with any artificial intelligence (AI) tools, bots, software, or platforms without the author’s permission.
