Course Overview:
Digital transformation is the major force driving the enhancement of quality, promotion of efficiency, and reinvention of profit models in organizations today. With the rise and fall of industries and businesses determined by success or failure to implement creative digital solutions effectively, a number of key concerns about digitalization have become the focus of discussion in management education. In order to maintain a competitive edge and to create a sustainable value, organizations not only have to position themselves within the digital space to make the most of the newest tools and technologies available to them; they must also adapt to the ways in which digitalization has influenced the expectations of end users, clients, and customers.

The objective of this program is to instill a design thinking framework necessary for assessing the value of new technologies and the needs of both internal and external customers, targeting implementation efforts, and evolving organizations beyond the age of digital transformation. In progressing toward this goal, Frontier-Spirited participants will explore recent shifts, anticipate future trends, evaluate the strategic direction and management practices of global industry leaders, and propose an innovative and ethical digital transformation strategy to grow and sustain value.

- This course will be made up of 4 lectures, 3 presentations, and a group project:
- The lectures will provide participants with frameworks for identifying the actors and forces driving the digital transformation process in order to spur group and class-wide discussion, through which participants will develop their thought leadership on the major themes and articulate new ideas;
- The presentations will provide insights into specific topics and tools from experts who have extensive industry experience;
- The group project will develop intercultural & decision-making competencies while giving participants of all backgrounds the opportunity to work together as a structured team under the leadership of selected members.

評価の留意事項 Notes on Evaluation Criteria

As an intensive/project course, the final grade will not be taken into account for the GPA.

Quizzes/Tests = Group Project

Group Project: Each group will choose an existing organization and propose a digital transformation to create a new value proposition in light of the new normal. The evaluation will be carried out on the basis of the feasibility, originality, and value of the proposed solution, as well as the structure of the presentation.

Final Report: Each member of the group will submit a 2-page reflection report reviewing their group project, detailing their individual perspective on the organization of the group’s work, the process and value of their group’s proposal.

担当教員のプロフィール About the Instructor 


Louie Wong is a Professor at NUCB Business School, Graduate School of Management. He is an active researcher and educator with extensive teaching, research, and industry experience. Louie received his Ph.D. degree in Information Systems from City University of Hong Kong. He also holds an MBA degree, a Bachelor and a Master of Science degrees in Computer Science. Before joining NUCB Business School, Louie was a Visiting Fellow at City University of Hong Kong. In the last 15 years, Louie has designed and taught various undergraduate and graduate business courses in Hong Kong and Japan.

Louie's research interests include management information systems, digital transformation, blockchain, social media, knowledge management, supply chain management, information security, and action research. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Information Systems Journal. His research has been published in prominent international peer-reviewed journals and proceedings of conferences.

(実務経験 Work experience)


Besides, Louie is also a seasoned business executive with decades of industry experience in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to his academic career, Louie served in various senior management positions at leading multinational companies such as Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), Compaq, Check Point Technologies, and Citrix. His last industry position was the Chief Marketing Officer of a listed company in the new media industry.
