The goals of this course are to nurtur the talented person who will be able to understand the contemporary world affairs, to consider the optimal position and strategy of Japan in the world, and to suggest the solutions of various problems.

Importance of this course

The term "geopolitics" or "geopolitical risk" began to be used in the fields of financial markets and market economies since the beginning of the 21st century, especially the 9.11 terrorist attack was a big turning point. Since then, the perception that "the changes in the strategic situation, diplomatic relations, and domestic politics are affecting the business environment and financial markets as same as the economic fundamentals" (Eurasia group) rapidly expanded mainly in the business world.

Achievement Goal

The purpose of this lecture is, however, not simply to understand the latest world affairs and its impact on the market economy, but also to learn about the business strategy under certain political-economical-social conditions. By doing this, we aim to develop the ability to correctly evaluate geopolitical risks and link them to business strategies effectively.

Learning Outcomes

By attending this lecture, you will be able to cultivate a view that sees things "politically." This is a very important point of view in daily life, in-house politics, and of course understanding of international affairs and geopolitical risks. Furthermore, by understanding the latest international situation and geopolitical risks, it becomes possible for students to obtain clues to think about the optimal business strategy in all over the world.
